VOLCANO-LOGISTS: The Tragic Story of a Town Hit by Lava in Iceland
After 800 years of silence, Iceland has entered into a new volcanic era.
In this documentary, we explore the unprecedented volcanic activity in Iceland — and the scientists racing to understand it.
We went to meet the people who know best how to cope with a volcano right in your neighbourhood, the volcanologists of Iceland. They tell about the excitement as well as worry about this new era of eruptions.
The town of Grindavík is the most affected by the recent volcanic activity. In November 2023 the town was hit by earthquakes and the ground cracked wide open. Two months later, lava from a nearby fissure travelled all the way to the town, burning three houses. Since only a few people have returned to live in Grindavík.
